We teamed up with San Diego-based Throtl to celebrate Miami’s Formula One Race Weekend and the new partnership between Sunoco, parent company Energy Transfer and Stake F1 Team Kick Sauber. This time around, the talented crew of auto build experts challenged themselves to trade up from a $1,000 BMW to acquire and revive a world-famous make: a Ferrari.
The Project Car
By trading and flipping a 2004 BMW 330 CI and a 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII, the Throtl team successfully acquired a 1995 Ferrari F355.
The catch? This renowned supercar was not operational and had been sitting outside with windows down for 10 years, exposed to the elements and housing various critters during that time. And the Ferrari F355 needed to be completely refurbished in just 7 days. Still, Throtl was undeterred, focusing instead on its potential.
Watch the project from start to finish.
The Build
To get started, the team gave the F355 a sorely needed, thorough exterior and interior cleaning. Mechanically, the 6-speed manual Ferrari looked promising. The V8 engine had fortunately not seized and was generally in good health, save for some necessary cleanup and TLC. That included new belts and fluids and new harnesses to repair wiring that had been chewed by wildlife who sought shelter in the engine bay.
True to Throtl form, the F355 enjoyed plenty of cosmetic and mechanical upgrades, both inside and out: suspension, exhaust, tires, fenders, and diffuser, to name a few.
The New Look
Throtl enlisted additional talent to get aesthetic upgrades across the finish line. SOS Customz offered up a new white base-coat paint job and interior reupholstery, with genuine Italian Alcantara and leather in Tiffany Blue. UK Artist Mica Dori further transformed the Ferrari with an amazing custom paint design that would be sure to thrill admirers.
F1 Race Weekend in Review
The combined auto pros worked tirelessly to complete the restoration just in time to debut the car in front of more than 150 auto industry professionals at an event held at Throtl headquarters.

The newly upgraded Ferrari stood proudly next to the team show car. Naturally, the Throtl team took a cruise around town to show off to F1 crowds and enthusiasts.
Through this unique and exciting project, Sunoco certainly made an entrance into the F1 world and exemplified our commitment to bringing innovation, quality and excellence to the track and beyond.
